Derek discusses athletics on BBC2’s Victoria Derbyshire Show

With the World Championships in Athletics about to reach their climax in Beijing, Derek was invited to BBC2’s Victoria Derbyshire Show on Friday 28th August for a discussion about the current state of track competition.

He spoke with presenter Naga Munchetty about Great Britain stars Jessica Ennis-Hill and Mo Farah, describing them as ambassadors of the sport – alongside Jamaica’s Usain Bolt – for their sensational achievements on the track and good conduct off it.

Derek also criticised the sport’s drug cheats, adding his voice to those who want them out of competitive action, and talked about his own achievements, namely his role in Team GB’s shock 4x400m relay win at the 1991 World Championships, which he deemed “the greatest moment in my life” (alongside his wedding day of course!).
