In 2006 Derek began the next adventure in his life as he finally realised a lifelong dream of learning to ride a motorcycle. As a professional athlete, riding motorbikes was strictly forbidden, and it was only when he had retired from competitive sport that he was able to fulfil this particular goal.
Derek discovered he had a natural talent for riding motorcycles and he soon booked himself onto his first trackday, to see what it was like riding one at top speed. After that first day on a racing circuit he was hooked. He quickly became a trackday regular but in true Redmond style he wanted more. He wanted to go faster, he wanted to learn as much as he could and ultimately as a former athlete, he wanted to compete. He set up his own outfit, Derek Redmond Racing, to contest the Hottrax Endurance series.
Derek’s passion and dedication to motorsport has contributed to him co-creating two motorsport Teams, ‘Spitlash Redmond’ and ‘RG Moto’. He helped create the International team Spitlash Redmond in 2011 with friend John Dimbylow, and endurance racing team RG Moto is the brainchild of Derek and Mark Grimes. These days, Derek concentrates his time on getting on the bike as much as possible himself, with his thirst for the sport being as strong as ever
